# How to Use NanoPrompter (Free Online Teleprompter)

> NanoPrompter is a free online teleprompter that runs in your browser. You write your script, press play, and read it while it scrolls. No installation, no sign-up, and your scripts never leave your browser unless you explicitly share them.

## 1. Write your script in the editor

Open https://www.nanoprompter.com/editor/ and type or paste your script. The toolbar provides basic rich text formatting:

- **Bold** and *italic* to emphasize parts of your text.
- A **color palette** (red, blue, green, yellow, orange) to make certain words stand out while reading.

Your script is saved automatically in your browser's local storage. It stays on your device: there is no account and no cloud copy unless you share it.

## 2. Share a script (optional)

You can share a script privately:

1. Click the share button in the editor.
2. Set a password (optional but recommended).
3. Send the private link to another person.

Shared links expire automatically after **24 hours** and can be protected with a password. Only people with the link (and the password) can read the script.

## 3. Read in the teleprompter

Open the teleprompter view and press play. While reading you can control:

- **Scroll speed** — faster or slower with the +/- keys.
- **Font size** — bigger or smaller with the q/a keys.
- **Mirror mode** — flips the text horizontally, for beam splitters and hood mounts (z key).
- **Flip vertical** — flips the text vertically (x key).
- **Fullscreen** — hides everything else on screen.
- **Focus mode** — dims the interface to keep attention on the text.

Dark and light themes are available. On mobile, touch controls work the same way.

## 4. Keyboard shortcuts

Space plays/puses the scroll. Arrow keys jump backward/forward. Every shortcut is customizable from the settings panel.

## 5. Control with a gamepad

You can control scroll speed, play/pause and more with a USB or Bluetooth gamepad. This is useful when the computer running the teleprompter is far away: a presenter (or a helper) can control the reading from a distance, without touching the keyboard.
